The Lakeside Trail is a one-mile segment in the largest paved trail system at Lake Tahoe, connecting the North Shore, West Shore, and the Truckee River and Squaw Valley. This segment courses through the core of Tahoe City in close proximity to the Truckee River and Lake Tahoe and was developed in seven phases due to its complexities. Water quality and coverage mitigation strategies were successfully implemented throughout the trail and allowed for enhanced restoration of areas that had been previously disturbed. Managed public access and friendly barrier features have kept users on the trail and away from sensitive areas. Major utility upgrades and relocations as well as storm water treatment facilities and source control measures on and off site were key benefits of the trail.

Measures E and U are General Obligation Bonds that were approved by voters in November of 2014. Since that time, a great deal of work has been underway for the district's facility upgrade projects. AEC provided civil engineering design services for Glenshire School addition, which included: reconfiguring the parking lot; improving bus drop off and access to improve safety and efficiency, providing frontage improvements; dry and wet utility relocation; and stormwater drainage improvements. The new improved design elements improved circulation and qualified the project for the Safe Routes to School program in the Town of Truckee.

The United States Forest Service (USFS) contracted with AEC to provide design services for this reconstruction and retrofit project. The project included redesigning the day use area to maximize efficiency of the paved surfaces for parking, to increase the number of parking stalls to 160, and to provide BMP’s for the site located in sandy soils very close to shoreline of Lake Tahoe. The site consists of three individual, interconnected parking lots, each of which was graded to allow the stormwater runoff to sheet flow to a large central landscape island.

This lakefront project involved converting a partially built timeshare development into a new single-family residential Planned Development. Completed in 2014, Homewood Shores consists of 6 lakefront homes located in central Homewood, California. AEC provided survey, mapping and Placer County regulatory services. Close coordination with the County was required for re-approval of existing Improvement Plans, and fresh approval of the new Final Subdivision Map.

The Truckee High School Track upgrade included the replacement of the existing track with a synthetic track surface, new restrooms, bleachers, and ADA compliant accessibility throughout. AEC tasks included storm drainage and water quality treatment for the new track as well as design and reconfiguration of three existing parking areas, drive aisles, walkways, and utility connections to the new restrooms.

Complete design services for a sewer line repair in high altitude, over steep terrain where the sewer line is located up to 20 feet deep. Special attention was needed to ensure worker shoring and safety during construction. AEC completed Construction Phase services for the project.

Auerbach Engineering Corporation worked with Alpine Meadows in developing a lift alignment for the Sherwood Chair, completed in 2005. Support services necessary for TRPA and Placer County approval were provided by AEC as well as a drainage analysis for the entire resort and surrounding amenities for the creation of a phased BMP and Snow Management Plan.

Martis Valley Trail is a paved, multi-use recreational trail, that connects the communities of Truckee and Northstar, and ultimately the Lake Tahoe Basin. The 9+ mile trail begins near the southern limits of the Town of Truckee, crosses through Martis Valley, and ends near Sawmill Flat Reservoir at a junction with Forest Route 73 (AKA the Fiberboard Freeway), allowing connection to Tahoe’s north shore. AEC worked with the environmental consultant to complete an equal-weight CEQA analysis of two project alternatives. Multiple resource areas required bridge/boardwalk crossing evaluations to minimize impacts.

Date of completion: 1999

This project consisted of utilizing aerial and ground survey information to create a site plan for the the entire Homewood property (approximately 1,500 acres). The site plan was compiled to meet TRPA requirements for coverage and land capability verification as well as future planning for the Homewood Mountain Resort.

Date of completion: 2004

Mr. Auerbach was Project Manager for civil design and infrastructure development for this destination resort development. AEC served as the team civil engineer and land surveyor for this 6-acre multi-family mixed use project. AEC prepared the project base maps, conducted utility surveys for relocation documents, prepared drainage analysis and reports in accordance with Placer County requirements, prepared final maps and condominium plans, and prepared construction documentation for roadways, drainage systems, and utility extensions/reinforcements. This was a complex multi-phase, multi-year development, coordinated with numerous regulatory agencies and utility providers. AEC was the engineer of record for the entire project from preliminary planning and tentative maps, through to construction and project closeout.
