President – Walter Auerbach, P.E.

Mr. Auerbach has 33 years of experience which encompasses everything from planning, public participation, design, and regulatory process to construction support and inspection, with nearly all of his professional experience associated with local area projects. Mr. Auerbach provides supervision and control of the company’s engineering/surveying and planning services. He has won recognition for outstanding projects such as the Tahoe City Downtown Beautification, and the Commons Beach Public Access Facility in Tahoe City, along with the Midway Bike Trail between Squaw Valley and Tahoe City, and several other multi-purpose trails in the North Shore of Lake Tahoe. He has participated in a long list of private and public development projects where onsite and offsite infrastructure is a major component of work.

Mr. Auerbach has a Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He is active with the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association Infrastructure Committee and was recently elected again to fill a seat on the Board of Directors for another three-year term, while previously President of the Board of Directors for two years. He also served a two year term on the North Tahoe Regional Advisory Council, hearing and making recommendations on projects that were moving through the Placer County planning process. Mr. Auerbach has recently joined the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation (TTCF) as an active Board Member. He also sits on the Tahoe City Community Plan Workshop Committee, set up to facilitate the Placer County community plan update process. Mr. Auerbach is a licensed civil engineer in California and Nevada, and is QSP/QSD Certified.

Project Manager – Nathan Chorey, P.E.

Mr. Chorey joined AEC in March 2009, bringing strong design and documentation skills to the team. Mr. Chorey has work experience in capital improvement and infrastructure projects as well as transportation and multi-use trail development and the process associated with acquisition, planning, design and implementation of public projects. He has experience with many local, regional, state and federal agencies such as: USFS, United States Army Corp of Engineers (USACE), United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), California Tahoe Conservancy, California Regional Water Control Board Lahontan Region, Caltrans, California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG), Tahoe City Public Utility District (TCPUD), Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), and the Placer County Redevelopment Agency.

Mr. Chorey has a Masters of Science in Civil / Environmental Engineering from Colorado State University and is LEED certified. His credentials include a QSP/QSD Certification as well as Certified Construction Documents Technician. Mr. Chorey is a licensed civil engineer in California and Nevada.

Staff Engineer – Nicole McCurdy, E.I.T.

Ms. Nicole McCurdy joined AEC’s staff of engineers in August 2016. Prior to joining AEC, Nicole worked for three years in private sector residential development. At AEC, Nicole’s current responsibilities include trail, utility, and drainage design, and preparing cost estimates, and construction documents.

Nicole earned her degree in Civil Engineering from UC Davis, with a concentration in Geotechnical Engineering. An ASCE member and Engineer in Training, Nicole is working toward her PE license in California. A new resident to Truckee, Nicole is enjoying the mountain life. When not in the office, she enjoys travelling, backpacking, and scuba diving and looks forward to working on more projects in the Tahoe-Truckee region. AEC is excited to add Nicole’s expertise to the team, and look forward to her role in roadway design and construction.

Staff Engineer – Ryan Decker, P.E.

Mr. Decker joined AEC in April 2015, bringing eight years of experience in technical project planning, estimating, design review, construction management, operations, and safety program administration.  Ryan has been involved in capital improvement, infrastructure, transportation, and public works projects from initial field surveys to final construction. He has experience in the planning, estimating, design, evaluation, and execution of projects including new construction and maintenance of roadways, drainage systems, traffic control, recreation facilities, and other public works and utility infrastructure.

Mr. Decker has a Masters of Science in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Construction Engineering and Management from the University of Colorado, Boulder.  He spent 6 years in the US Navy as a Civil Engineer Corps Officer managing contingency construction and large-scale public works projects around the world.  He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME).  When not in the office, he is also a certified Emergency Medical Technician and volunteers as a member of local Search and Rescue.

Staff Engineer – Peter Calhoun, E.I.T.

Mr. Calhoun joined the AEC team in 2015. He earned his degree in Civil Engineering from the University of New Hampshire with a focus in Environmental and Water Resource Engineering. At AEC he has been involved in grading designs for both residential and public projects, as well as underground utility design.

Peter is an avid outdoor enthusiast. You’ll find him on the slopes in the winter, and deep in California’s beautiful river canyons in his canoe or kayak once that snow starts melting. As one of the many east coast natives living in the Tahoe region, he has no problems finding wonder and awe exploring every bit of the grand landscape we all call home.

Project Land Surveyor – Keith Masuda, P.E., P.L.S.

Mr. Masuda has over twenty years of experience as a Land Surveyor. Mr. Masuda joined AEC in 2003, and brings 20 years of civil engineering experience in land development and structural design. Mr. Masuda is responsible for scheduling field survey crews, client coordination, surveying, data collection, topographic mapping, and preparation of legal descriptions and plats for easements. He also prepares ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys, and aerial survey control. Mr. Masuda has completed field surveying and mapping for dozens of route surveys involving roadways, trails and utilities in mountainous terrain, utilizing conventional and GPS equipment and techniques. Mr. Masuda is well versed in AutoCAD Civil 3D. Project experience includes land surveying in subdivision design, parcel maps, record of surveys, lot line adjustments, boundary determination, and construction staking.

Mr. Masuda has a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering from Sacramento State University. He is a licensed civil engineer and professional land surveyor in California.

Survey Technician – Sara Carbonari, L.S.I.T.

Ms. Carbonari has over eleven years of experience in land surveying and mapping. Ms. Carbonari is a field crew survey technician with experience in topographic mapping, construction staking, as well as Auto CAD Civil 3D, lot line adjustments, legal descriptions, parcel maps, and record of surveys.

Ms. Carbonari has a Bachelor’s of Science in Earth Sciences from the University of California at Santa Cruz with an emphasis in professional surveying. When she's not in the office, Sara volunteers her time as a member of the Nordic Search and Rescue Team for the North Lake Tahoe area.

Environmental Planner – Lydia Altick

Ms. Altick joined AEC in 2011 bringing over 11 years of experience in Planning and 15 in the local construction industry. Lydia facilitates project development, and provides regulatory, environmental, and client coordination. Ms. Altick has experience assisting local clients through the regulatory process for new construction, redevelopment and infrastructure projects for residential, commercial and public projects.

Ms. Altick has a Bachelor’s of Science in Geography, specializing in Urban Planning from the University of Nevada, Reno. She served on the Place-Based Planning Committee for the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency 2007 Regional Plan Update. Presently, Ms. Altick is serving on the Lake Tahoe West Shore Community Plan Workshop Committee, set up to facilitate the community plan update process for Placer County.

Office Manager – Jessica Taff

Ms. Taff joined AEC in June of 2014 bringing excellent management and organizational skills to the company. She has been in charge of implementing software solutions for many of our office procedures and is in control of the human resources and accounts payable/receivable departments.

In her free time, Jessica volunteers with organizations such as the Tahoe City Downtown Association, IVGID Snapshot Day in the spring, and also serves as a Precinct Judge during Placer County elections. She has a degree in International Business from San Francisco State University, and is an active Notary Public in the state of California.
